Azuthai: Sticking to the Classics

A member of the esteemed Milky Way group of restaurants, Azuthai counts as one of Chef Gamboa’s classy creations. Its intricate and elaborate interiors set the perfect scene for a fancy Thai dinner ahead.

However, my mom and her sisters opted for the simple Thai classics, instead.

TOD MAN GOONG (P425)

We started off with the Tod Man Goong, a plate of beautifully deep-fried golden brown shrimp patties served with homemade sweet chili sauce. The shrimp cakes were really tasty, however I found them a tad bit dry. Fortunately, the chili sauce were able to lend it some moisture to compensate for it.

GAI HO BAI TOEY (P425)

We also ordered some Gai Ho Bai Toey, which featured plump and juicy chicken pieces. Despite being elaborately wrapped in pandan leaves, I failed to taste even a trace of the flavor of pandan. What made it interesting though is that it was served with a sesame brown sauce (instead of the usual sweet chili sauce) which enveloped the already tasty pieces with a lovely smoky flavor.

THAI BAGOONG FRIED RICE (P425)

Azuthai’s take on the Thai Bagoong Fried Rice was a delightful mixture of sweet pork, and dried shrimp. The julienned green mangoes lend a wonderful crunch and zest in each bite. Each component was portioned and plated in an organized manner; that it made it painful to mix everything up!

PAD THAI WITH PRAWNS (P425)

The Pad Thai with Prawns was also wonderfully executed; the tasty flat noodles had a nice springy bite to them, and the spoonful of chicharon did wonders in elevating the flavors of the dish.

Our dinner might not have been characterized by exciting and interesting choices, but it proved that quality may be found in Azuthai’s dishes, simple as they may be. Yes, the dishes were on the pricey side, especially since you can enjoy these dishes at half its price point elsewhere. However, at least excellent and attentive service are guaranteed throughout your meal.
