Delivery Snippets: Bad Bird x Cucina Mia x Tokyo Bubble Milk Tea
BAD BIRD
I’ve always been a fan of Bad Bird, but its witty and biting humor on social media made me love them even more. As a way to make operations more cost-efficient, the Lowbrow Group of Restaurants decided to merge the social media presence of its various concepts (which include Fowlbread, Beefier, BBX and Flowerboy) into one main account. If you haven’t followed it on your socials, you’re definitely missing out! Apart from serving up some perfect social commentary shade, it’s also packed with promotions that you shouldn't miss out on!
TANTANMEN (P350)
One such promotion was when they decided to give out FULL sizes of their Tantanmen, in its pre-launch stage for FREE. Mechanics to avail of the free dish were beyond simple that it felt too good to be true!
I was surprised at how heavy and packed the boxed meal was. I couldn’t help but swoon over how neatly the toppings were compartmentalized: ground pork mixed with chunks of mushroom, bonito flakes, and green onions occupy three of the four quadrants. Compared to its most famous counterparts served in Ukkokei Ramen Ron and Mendokoro Ramenba, Bad Bird’s Tantanmen is soup-less. This definitely makes it more convenient and less messy for delivery arrangements. Another thing that won me over was that it came with a lot of chunky mushrooms which lent the noodles a surprising and interesting bite. The only thing Bad Bird requested was that the order would be coursed through its own online delivery system AND that you give them feedback about it. One thing that I recommended to them was that they should offer varying spice levels similar to that of their chicken (Safe, Spicy and Chemical) as I found the noodles too mild on the spice scale. Fortunately, this was one of the changes Bad Bird enacted after receiving customer feedback from its free Tantanmen trial; so I’m pretty excited to try its newly improved version!

CUCINA MIA
My family lives in a relatively small village where most neighbors kept to themselves. However, as information dissemination has proven to be vital in our collective battle against Covid-19, Viber and Facebook groups were quickly created to connect everyone. Apart from timely, transparent and helpful updates, the groups have started to serve as a launching point for neighbors to get to know each other and support each other’s side hustles (especially when it involves food).
CHICKEN AND BEEF KEBABS (P550)
One of our neighbors often offer her home-cooked comfort-food classics for merienda, lunch and dinner (which my family have availed of multiple times already); little did I know that she was also the woman behind Cucina Mia! I first came to know Cucina Mia through the foodie Facebook group, Let’s Eat Pare; so when I found out that it was our neighbor operating it, I quickly posted an order! Her menu’s pretty straightforward: 10 Sticks or 30 Sticks of Kebab; with the option of having all Beef skewers, all Chicken skewers or Half and Half. We opted for the 10 Sticks, Half and Half, which came with Basmati Rice, Grilled Onions and Tomatoes and Sauces. If you’re a fan of the Kebabs from Café Mediterranean, you’d easily warm up to her equally delicious skewers which come at a quarter of its price (a solo Kebab plate from Cafe Med fetches a price of around P400 to P600). The skewers came with a flavorful and marinade; and boasted of pleasant charred marks on their juicy meat. Both their garlic and spicy sauces may be a few notches down on the flavor scale when compared to Café Med’s, but definitely good enough that they were wiped clean after the meal!

TOKYO BUBBLE MILK TEA
Tokyo Bubble Milk Tea can be treated as one of the OG’s when you talk about milk teas. True, it may not be as top of mind as popular chains such as Macao Imperial (which I personally never tried yet) and Coco (which I’m not a fan of), but it successfully differentiates itself from other milk tea brands by having a full-fledged food menu; which I believe has helped establish it as a mainstay franchise.
TERIYAKI CHICKEN DORIA (P301.75) and ROYAL MILK TEA (P102)
It’s been a while since I ordered a full meal from them, but their discount tie-up’s with Foodpanda (up to 15%) and promo bundles from their in-house delivery platform were simply too good to pass on. A staple Tokyo Bubble Milk Tea order for me would be their Teriyaki Chicken Doria and their Royal Milk Tea (with their signature mixed bubbles). You can expect the chicken teriyaki strips to always be smoky; which makes it a perfect match for the goeey cheesy layer atop your rice. Sweet teriyaki sauce is glazed over the rice meal to help balance the saltiness of the disk.
