Mamou: A Hearty Home Away from Home

Mamou has prided itself as "A Home Kitchen". Although most of its dishes aren't really typical lutong bahay staples we have at home; no one can question the comfort and warmth one gets from its hearty dishes. Magnified by its friendly and exceptional service, dining in Mamou always feels like a warm fuzzy hug on a cold breezy day.

HEALDSBURG'S HARVEST (P165/P335)

Kick off your meal with the refreshing Healdsburg's Harvest, a lovely garden salad sweetened by a drizzle of its berry vinaigrette; you'd love biting into the pecans, and dried cranberries that the salad comes with. It's served with Stilton cheese to lend the salad a sharp and savory tone.

LAMB TAPA (P395)

An interesting twist to the classic Filipino breakfast staple is the Lamb Tapa, which comes with your choice of white or red garlic rice; served with immensely creamy scrambled eggs. Each strip of lamb is tender and oozes with flavor. The kicker that comes with devouring the delicious dish is the lovely subtle truffle oil drizzled on it.

KUROBUTA SINIGANG (P475)

You can't leave Mamou without ordering its Kurobuta Sinigang. This dish challenges all our presumptioons on what sinigang should be. The clear tamarind soup is replaced by a red viscous tamarind broth that looks more like Kare-Kare and Kaldereta. The sharpness of the sourness is perfectly matched with the saltiness of the bagoong. Pair it up with rice, and add a drop of patis in every serving to complete the experience. It's a bit overwhelming when trying it out for the first time; but you'd end up wondering why sinigang was never served this way before!

LORENZO'S TRUFFLE CREAM (P395)

Mamou's take on the classic truffle pasta is a perfect exemplar of proper restraint, and elegance in showcasing the delicate truffle flavor. It skips on the heavy cream and mushrooms that distract from the earthy flavor of the truffle and settles for the simple sprinkling of Grano Padano cheese.

It's a pleasure to dine in Mamou; but do try to make reservations since the restaurant is quick to fill up!
