Wildflour: Cooking Up the Good Stuff
Wildflour may be famous for its freshly made bread, and its mouthwatering pastry selection; but that doesn’t mean that bread is its only strength. Its sumptuous main dishes, filling sandwiches, and delectable drinks also aim to please.
No matter which branch you frequent, you’d be spoiled with an endless supply of their addicting house bread. It’s a struggle to slice through; so ditch the knife and tear the loaf with your hands. Eating it can get extremely messy; but, I assure you it’s worth all the pre-eating fuss that comes with it!
PISTACHIO AU LAIT (P180) and HAZELNUT HOT CHOCOLATE (P160)
Deciding on a drink to buzz up your day can be quite challenging as its drinks selection ranges from affordable pour over coffee (P130/P150) (Budget Tip: If dining with friends, opt for the P150 size as it easily splits into 3 full cups of coffee); to refreshing drinks such as its Agua Fresca (P130); to its indulgent drinks such as the Pistachio Au Lait, and my guilty pleasure, its Hazelnut Hot Chocolate.
WILDFLOUR’S BREAKFAST PLATTER (P410/P430)
If you’re looking for a legitimately BIG breakfast (especially since Mcdo's has been growing smaller as each year passes), Wildflour’s got the platter that will fill you up halfway through the meal as it is enough to feed two hungry people! You’ve got toasty crunchy bread, fluffy scrambled eggs, AMAZING (and addicting) fried potato rounds (that I won’t mind giving up my precious Shakeys’ mojos for), and a choice between their country sausages or their bacon slab. Personally, I’d opt for their sausage patties; since it’s packed with meat, and heavy on flavour. If you’re craving for bacon slab, Poco Deli is still the better alternative.
CHORIZO FUNDIDO (P390)
If you're sick of the classic butter and bread combination, spice things up with the Chorizo Fundido spread. It features sliced chorizo pieces clothed in the yolk of a gorgeous runny egg, married with mozzarella cheese, and topped with fresh arugula. A piece of Jalapeno is the cherry on top in this DIY bruschetta!
WILD MUSHROOM SALAD (P190/P360)
Two salad favorites of mine would be the Wild Mushroom Salad, and the Octopus Salad (P210/P390). The Wild Mushroom salad is filled with fresh arugula, and flavored by the meaty tones of fresh mushrooms, and sprinkled with a tangy dressing. It’s light and delicious, but the taste can get a bit old; so it's best to alternate it with the Octopus Salad, whose octopus pieces are succulent and bursting in flavor.
FRENCH ONION SOUP (P230)
When dining alone, or when eating for one, I usually opt for a half order of a salad, and pair it with the immensely rich and comforting French Onion Soup. Honestly, this is my ultimate pick-me-up. The top layer is made with gooey strings of mozzarella and gruyere; which wonderfully breaks open to reveal the delicious warm onion broth inside. Onions are caramelized, but maintain a subtle crunch to every bite. This is by far, the best tasting French Onion Soup I’ve tried.
KIMCHI FRIED RICE (P590)
Whenever I’m in the mood for something heavier, the Kimchi Fried Rice serves as my go-to dish. Before, it used to be served with a row of crunchy (and sinful) gorgeous slices of pork belly; and poached egg. In recent visits, the guilt-causing pork belly slices have been replaced with tender braised beef, making the dish more in tune with its Korean theme. The beef-centered Kimchi Fried Rice is a delectable alternative; but nothing can beat the tasty pork slices, and the perfect crunch of their skin.
MACARONI AND CHEESE (P280)
I’m really not a fan of Macaroni and Cheese, but if you’re looking for the dish that gives you the most bang for your buck in Wildflour, the Macaroni and Cheese is your best bet. The serving portion may look small; but each bite you take of its gruyere and cheddar heavy Mac and Cheese will quickly fill you up. The best part? This is good for sharing!
BANH MI SLIDERS (P320)
If you’re looking for a light lunch, or an appetizer to share, the Banh Mi Sliders is a dish that makes for an interesting consideration. Tiny burger sliders are neatly filled with stacks of crispy pig slices, veggies, with a generous slather of hoisin sauce and a kick of Sriracha! This gets a bit messy to eat, but the dynamics of the dish, from the play on textures and on flavors, would make the mess worth it.
End your meal by ordering a cup of its pour-over coffee and pairing it up with a slice of its Strawberry Shortcake. I’m not a fan of cake, but I do find myself craving for this dessert every now and then!
