The Frazzled Cook: A Respite for the Frazzled Diner

As Christmas season draws nearer, tensions are high and stress levels seem to be at their optimum. There’s the year-end rush at work; on top of the bazillion reunions and parties to organize and go to, and the traffic situation that’s worsening each day., and the tedious task of gift-giving. For people like me, I seek solace from the hustle and bustle in food; and for really stressful days that you need comfort with a cherry on top, you can definitely count on The Frazzled Cook.

The Frazzled Cook is both eclectic and calming. It has a hodgepodge of mismatched interiors which ironically blend well together. It’s an organized mess that comfortably makes you feel at home.

(And yes, that’s Hello Kitty)

HERBED CHICKEN SALAD (P275)

Start with its refreshing Herbed Chicken Salad which comes with a killer basil vinaigrette. It’s a heap of fresh greens, sweetened by mangoes; and served with grilled marinated chicken. I found the chicken a bit too bland; however, it gave enough contrast to the citrus flavors of the salad.

SIZZLING SQUID (P495)

The Sizzling Squid was definitely an interesting one. It came with bite sized tender squid, drizzled in sweet vinaigrette, and paired with mangoes. The result was a sticky sweet emulsion that pairs well with the squid. It’s quite a departure from our typical toyomansi or tausi pairing with squid; but I’m definitely not complaining. I'm not a fan of sweet main dishes; but this is definitely a must try!

TRUFFLE PASTA (P295)

If you find yourself craving for Mamou’s Lorenzo Pasta, but don’t really have the time (or the patience) to go through Makati traffic, well The Frazzled Cook’s Truffle Pasta is the next best thing. Unlike Mamou’s purist truffle pasta; this comes with sizable chunks of sautéed Portobello mushrooms, a thicker white truffle cream sauce base, and that wonderful sprinkle of bacon bits to top it off. A perfect comfort dish that will destress you after a bite.

When you find yourself in the QC area, skip the busy street of Tomas Morato; and hop on to the more secluded Scout Gandia. No need to wolf down your meal, as the restaurant has extended operating hours (especially on weekends).
