Peperoni Pizzeria: Pizza Kneaded with Love
Peperoni Pizzeria counted itself as one of the new food concepts that opened up early in the still-bare Uptown Mall. While its neighbor, Morganfields' boasts of generous servings of succulent ribs, Peperoni Pizzeria promises comforting and familiar Italian fare.
All its pizza variants come in three sizes at fixed prices: Medium (9”) – P395; Large (12”) – P565; XXL (21”) – P1250. For a group of 5, the Large size would already suffice, especially if you would be pairing it up with other dishes. Choosing among its pizza variants tends to be quite difficult since its pizza menu comes with mouthwatering snapshots of the ingredients that each flavor comes with. The restaurant probably had the foresight about their diners’ heightened indecisiveness, that they allow you to have half and half pizzas for the Large and XXL sizes!
XXL: BACON MIELE and PROSCIUTTO CRUDO DI PARMA (P1250)
There never seemed to be an empty spot of dough left in the Prosciutto Crudo di Parma half as the restaurant went overboard with their generous serving of prosciutto, lavishly topped with fresh arugula to give that bitter nutty contrast to the saltiness of the cured meat. It’s further complemented by the sweetness of the honey from the Bacon Miele; which boasts of bacon pieces and gouda cheese. To make this flavor even more special, it’s exclusively available in the Philippines too!
CALAMARI FRITTI (P355)
If you’re looking for an appetizer to order, I suggest skipping the Calamari Fritti. The squid rings seemed to linger in the frying pan too long as they came out tasting slightly burnt. It also didn’t come in breadcrumbs or batter; thus, lacking that extra crunch I was looking for.
MOZZARELLA FASCIATA CON PROSCIUTTO (P595)
Opt instead for the Mozzarella Fasciata con Prosciutto, which basically features prosciutto-wrapped mozzarella balls drizzled in a nice vinaigrette; and paired with arugula, grape tomatoes, and olives. This appetizer may be quite a splurge, but I guarantee you, it’s money worth spending. Each gooey spoonful was a heavenly mouthful.
RISOTTO CON GAMBERI (P595)
We also tried the Risotto con Gamberi, which was a simple tomato-based risotto topped with shrimps. Although it wasn’t a knockout in terms of flavor, the execution was flawless. The Arborio grains were cooked in just the right consistency, giving each grain a nice bite to them.
I just hope that Uptown Mall opens up more stores already (because there's nothing to do there right now!) since I cannot wait to try more of Peperoni Pizzeria’s pizza creations. I’ve never been this excited about a pizza place before (save for Shakeys’ but that’s coz of their mojos, and not their pizzas), so know that Peperoni Pizzeria is not your typical pizza parlor. Definitely, a must-try!
