Powerplant Mall Staple: Cantinetta

Though quite under-the-radar, Cantinetta has been serving delicious Italian fare for a number of years in the Powerplant Mall. Sure, it does not generate as much noise such as Mamou, Yabu, and The Dessert Kitchen; however, its dependable reputation in serving authentic Italian fare should not go unnoticed.

SPINACHI E FUNGHI (P350)

The Spinachi e Funghi immediately won me over! The subtle natural flavors of the smoky mushroom pieces over a bed of fresh spinach in white wine were a true masterpiece! This appetizer was a runaway hit in our table!

LINGUINI PESCATORA (P460)

The Linguini Pescatora may have been served with spaghetti noodles, and messily plated; however, I could not deny the boldness of its pescatora sauce. Perfectly spiced, and made with fresh tomatoes, this sauce was complemented by fresh seafood pieces.

SPAGHETTI CARBONARA (P380)

The classic Spaghetti Carbonara was executed perfectly. A rich luscious cream sauce envelopes al dente spaghetti noodles, which in turn, were paired with hefty chunks of pancetta.

CANTINETTA CLASSICA (P480)

The sole disappointment of our meal would be the Cantinetta Classica. Bearing the restaurant’s name, I had high expectations for this dish. Despite boasting a tempting combination of Italian sausage, pepperoni slices, and minced beef, the pizza looked bare. I guess after trying out Peperoni Pizzeria’s fully loaded pizzas, I was pampered enough to demand the same from other pizzas. Its thin crust was commendable though.

FILETO DI MANZO (P850)

Cantinetta spoils everyone who orders the Fileto di Manzo by providing three sauce bases (truffle cream, pepper, or red wine) as options. The truffle cream sauce was divine; however, I believe that your choice of sauce wouldn’t really matter as the steak was a piece to behold in itself. Droolworthy, tremendously juicy, and melt-in-your-mouth tender; this is a must-try!
