Café Enye: A Rare Spanish Gem In Eastwood
Café Enye brings about an interesting experience in Eastwood: casual Spanish fusion dining in a (hipster) coffee shop setting away from the main shopping centers. Its interiors are both photogenic and cozy; that you’d end up wiling away the entire afternoon wrapped up in good conversation and an interesting food selection.
BACALAO MANTECATO CREAM (P245) and GARLIC CILANTRO MUSSELS AND CLAMS (P265)
We started off our meal with a couple of appetizers. The Bacalao Mantecato Cream is a chunky but light spread made of bacalao bits, mashed potatoes, and chunks of salted egg. This wasn’t bad as a whole, but it was under-seasoned for me. The Garlic Cilantro Mussels and Clams was a better choice as the restaurant opted to pair its olive oil- based sauce with some tasty chimichurri. My standard for this type of dish would be the one served by Apartment 1B, but I won’t mind alternating it with this!
LECHON CARBONARA (P250)
It was hearing about the Lechon Carbonara dish which prompted me to try this restaurant. Sadly, this temptress of a dish bore nothing spectacular. It was your run-of-the-mill decent carbonara served with small sad pieces of fried pork that would make you yearn for the typical bacon pairing instead.
PAELLA VALENCIANA (P385)
The Paella Valenciana was another downer. As a predominantly Spanish themed restaurant, I expected them to specialize in paellas. The rice was a bit on the watery side; but it was okay-tasting in general. If you wish to spruce it up in terms of flavor, a drizzle of the olive oil sauce of the Garlic Cilantro Mussels and Clams will go a long way.
STEAK IN SOFRITO BUTTER (P575)
Surprisingly, it was the Steak in Sofrito Butter which won us over. The steak was grilled perfectly, with nice charred grilled marks and really juicy meat. The mashed potatoes were forgettable, but the chimichurri it came with definitely worked perfectly with the meat. It also helps that it was a generous serving that each of us enjoyed two to three sizeable slices making it a good deal overall.
