Apero: Brunch Food You’d Wake Up Early For
EGG IN THE HOLE TOAST WITH BACON (P340)
Apero may have the sophisticated and popular Duck and Buvette as its sister concept, but it definitely can hold its own. Upon entering its quaint restaurant in Temple Drive, the glorious smell of freshly made bread wafting in the air is sure to catch your attention. The real dilemma begins to surface once you browse through its menu as you’re presented with a list of tempting main dishes written next to a list of delicious sounding baked goods and pastries.
SMOKE ROASTED ORGANIC CHICKEN (P420)
When one speaks of breakfast food or brunch food, it’s almost impossible not to talk about bread. Apero’s slice of toast is light to taste but definitely fills you up. The Egg in the Hole Toast with Bacon highlights this delicious slice of bread by serving it with caramelized onion jam, crisp bacon strips, and a sunny side egg beautifully encased in the toast. If you’re into Shakshouka,Apero's Tomato, Basil, Garlic and Grana Padano Organic Eggs will definitely delight. Baked in Apero’s firebrick oven, this delicious dish is perfect for sharing. This dish prides on the subtle harmony of its ingredients; so if you’re looking for a smoky or savory taste, it's best to stick with the Egg in the Hole Toast.
FRESH CATCH SEAWATER MAMALE (P450)
Moving on to their main dishes, the Fresh Catch Seawater Mamale should not be missed. I love how the fish came with crisp skin and was paired with a light and refreshing dill, lemon, and beurre rogue medley. The fish was served on a bed of garlic marbled potatoes which had star power of their own as they were delectably coated in the same sauce. The kick of the red wine from the beurre rogue definitely amps up this dish.
CRISPY HALIBUT BOURRIDE (P540)
Another delicious seafood option would be its Crispy Halibut Bourride. This Marseille-inspired garlic aioli stew is deceptively heavy. Intending to have a light dinner, I found myself struggling to finish this dish on my own. This dish is definitely meant to be shared as you can’t help but get a bit ‘umay’ with it halfway through. One thing I love about it was that the halibut remained crisp despite being partially submerged in the stew.
SPINACH CAVATELLI (P380)
A surprise favorite came in the form of the Spinach Cavatelli. These green gnocchi-like pasta dumplings were simply tossed with sundried tomatoes and garlic, and drizzled in olive oil; but pack a mouthful of flavor. I’m usually not a fan of this type of noodles, but the dish definitely gives me a compelling reason to reconsider my stance.
SMOKE ROASTED DUCK PORCHETA (P620)
As a toast to the famed Duck Confit of its sister concept, Duck and Buvette; the Smoke Roasted Duck Porcheta of Apero is definitely one to look out for. Meaty and juicy slices of duck are generously rubbed and stuffed with fennel, sage, and garlic; to bring out that strong signature savory flavor porcheta is known for. The dish would have been perfect if the skin of the duck were crunchier though!
PURPLE JUICE (P220)
If you’re into cold-pressed juices or simply looking for a refreshing and healthy beverage to drink, the Purple Juice is a perfect choice. The blend of carrots, beets, ginger and mint is a treat for the senses, as it’s gorgeous to look at as it’s delicious.
