Sands Restaurant: Classic Favorites Done Right
BISTEK TAGALOG (P520)
When in Boracay, one must never miss out on a chance to explore its bustling dining scene. Start with a delicious Piri Piri Chicken Board from Spice Bird, follow it up with a sizzling plate of Oyster Sisig from Two Seasons, and end your day with some piping hot Bulalo from Smoke House.
BABY CALAMARES (P390)
However, if you’re looking for a more relaxed and quiet dining atmosphere, the Sands Restaurant in Discovery Shores is your best bet. Its menu is far from intimidating as it offers a wide array of beloved Filipino dishes, and comfort dishes from all over the world.
GAMBAS AL AJILLO (P290)
Start off with the bite-sized Gambas Al Ajillo; these baby shrimps pack on a load of flavor as these are tossed in a beautiful combination of olive oil and garlic. If you’re into something drier, the Baby Calamares would have you snacking throughout the meal. Spiced and well-seasoned, these baby squid pieces are tasty on their own; however, dipping them in the garlic aioli sauce does wonders.
KILAWIN NA TANIGUE (P390)
If you wish for something lighter, the Kilawin na Tanigue will give a refreshing respite in the meal. Cooked in Sinamak vinegar, the kingfish is guaranteed to boast of bold flavors. Follow this up with spoonfuls of its delicious Bistek Tagalog which makes use of tender Angus beef strips. Go all the way by bathing its Sisig Fried Rice (P260) with the Bistek’s killer soy-calamansi sauce. Cap it off with a large gulp of its freshly boiled Pandan water!
CRAB WITH GARLIC BUTTER (P250/100g)
There’s nothing like eating fresh seafood when on a beach trip. The Sands Restaurant definitely doesn’t skimp on its seafood offerings. Take the Crab with Garlic Butter for example. Its meat is freshly sweet; and lightly glazed in a garlic butter sauce that does not overwhelm. Its Mussels and Shrimp ‘Eats in a Bag’ dish (P1360) boats of endless servings of seafood, sausages, and corn cooked in the most delicious curry-like sauce that will make you forget about your rice diet.
STEAMED LAPU LAPU (P1600)
You can never go wrong with the classic Steamed Lapu Lapu cooked in soy sauce, ginger, and leeks. This beloved Chinese favorite keeps the garnish and seasoning at the minimum; allowing you to enjoy the sweet freshness of the fish.
TURON SPLIT (P220)
Make sure to leave enough room for dessert! Featured is a quarter portion of its Turon Split. Each turon stick boasts of a different filling: banana langka, camote, and ube-macapuno. However, the winner for me was the scoop of homemade Queso ice cream it came with. A balance of sweet and salty, it’s a dessert I won’t mind eating all day!
