Dining Snippets: New Dishes from Old Favorites

YABU

Yabu has definitely defined a certain standard when it comes to the art of cooking katsu. Thus, when they released a mouth-watering teaser launching its new dishes, I was instantly hooked. Their new offerings, the Kushikatsu sets weren’t as game-changing as my personal favorite, the Salmon Don; however, they still merit attention for indecisive katsu fans, or katsu fans who want a bit of everything.

KUSHIKATSU DELUXE (P420)

Yabu offers two kinds of Kushikatsu sets: the Kushikatsu Deluxe and the Kushikatsu Premium (P470). Essentially each set comes with a variety of their same old deliciously crunchy sticks and different sauces to play around with. The Deluxe set comes with sticks of prawn, chicken, ground pork, mozzarella, and vegetables. Each stick was excellently prepared; although doesn’t really deviate from its standard classics. If you're craving for something specific, it's still best to pick from its standard menu.

CIBO

I loved growing up with Cibo. When ordering, my family already has a staple set of orders: the Patatine (still one of my all time favorite chips), the Spinaci Zola, a family-size Rigatoni All’Alfonso, the Tagliata di Manzo (with Rosemary), and the Filetto di Pesce (with Pomodoro sauce and mushrooms).

LA BISTECCA (500g – P1299)

Occasionally though, we do try out a new dish to spice things up. In lieu of the Tagliata di Manzo dish, we decided to try the La Bistecca. Lately, it’s been buzzing all over social media due to its immense value for money. I'd have to say that it deserves all the attention it's getting. A platter of its Rib Eye is perfect for sharing. It may not be of exceptional quality, but for a non-steakhouse, Cibo definitely knows its way around steak preparation. If you need to satisfy a meat craving, this will definitely not break the bank.

RAMEN NAGI

CLAM CHOWDER KING (P490)

Ramen Nagi’s most recent Limited King takes on Western influences as it fuses a comfort food favorite, the Clam Chowder, with its unmistakable signature tonkotsu base. The outcome is a milky and creamy soup base topped with clams, vegetable wedges, diced potatoes and carrots, a melt-in-your-mouth mashed potato ball, and long glorious strips of smoky bacon. It makes for a delightful bowl of ramen; one that I won’t mind ordering again (who would say no to bacon right?), but it’s still not good enough to top the Red King.
