Getting Fatter with Fat Fook
Ever since Fat Fook opened in Galleria, I found myself devouring an order of their crisp Chicken Chop with Noodles Set or pairing up its deliciously viscous Mapo Tofu atop a steaming cup of rice for lunch at least once every two weeks.
Although I’m a big advocate of solo dining; I acknowledge that it does has its downside. You’ll find yourself limited in terms of meal variety; which makes dining in Fat Fook difficult since most of its dishes are meant for sharing.
FAT FOOK CHICKEN CHOP (P238)
Fortunately, my siblings are always hungry to try out new restaurants so one rainy night, we found ourselves all in Galleria so we quickly settled on dining in Fat Fook. The restaurant offers a range of beloved Taiwanese staples; from night market favorites to its noodle soups; you won’t find a shortage of great food here.
TAIWANESE SAUSAGE (P288)
We ordered the Taiwanese Sausage primarily because my good friend, Dolf, lept raving about it. It was a pretty good rendition of the Chinese sausage my mom usually uses when cooking fried rice at home. The sweetness of the meat is balanced by the sharp flavors of the raw garlic slivers. It was a good recommendation; but I would have preferred the garlic to be a little bit more cooked though!
Another great starter would be their fried Pot Stickers (P168). The dumplings didn’t really looked aesthetically pleasing; but its juicy meat and delicious dipping sauce (reminiscent of Ersao’s dumpling sauce) will definitely remind you to not judge food based on their appearance.
STIR FRIED EGGPLANT WITH MINCED MEAT (P198)
The Stir Fried Eggplant with Minced Meat is a dish that leaves you warm and fuzzy. The tasty ground pork and its savory glaze lend flavor to the already smoky eggplant slices; and makes for a perfect rice topping. After trying this out, I actually started alternating this with their Mapo Tofu for my workday lunches.
VEGETABLE FRIED RICE (P218)
Fat Fook’s Vegetable Fried Rice serves as the perfect base for its extremely flavorful, crisp Chicken Chop (definitely one of the best in the Metro), and the perfect receptacle for its saucy dishes. It fondly reminds me of Hong Kong’s Delicious Kitchen’s Pork Chop Rice as well. Theirs is a tasty version that’s flavorful enough to be enjoyed on its own. If you’re looking for something more flavorful, its Kiampung would be a good alternative.
TAIWAN BEEF NOODLES (P258)
A surprise winner would be its Taiwan Beef Noodles. Not only does its broth boast of robust beef flavor that is both clean tasting and delicious; but it’s also generously topped with tasty kiam-tsai to lend a nice savory element to it. We shared this indulgent bowl among the three of us; but a bowl of this is a perfect ramen alternative for cold rainy days.
