2020’s Birthday Lunch at Wolfgang’s Steakhouse
Christmas would always be a Filipino-favorite holiday season, given the length of time we dedicate to the season for celebration. However, when I started working, I found myself looking more forward to my month-long birthday celebration in January! Of course, a highlight will always be my personal birthday treat for my family.
I always make sure to choose a restaurant that we’ve never been to, or one that’s a bit more indulgent than what we’re accustomed to; especially since I know this is the only day in the year that my dad won’t compete with me in settling for the bill (so Chinese of us, I know). I urged my family to get individual steak sets for themselves to make the most out of my treat; however, after seeing the steeper-than-usual price tags, they reasoned that they won’t be able to eat a lot of meat, so they pushed me to order family-style instead.
Fortunately, Wolfgang’s Steakhouse’s menu is friendly for group dining, especially as its main dishes come in large serving sizes. It doesn’t hurt as well that their complimentary bread basket already features a variety of baked bread, ranging from soft rolls to focaccia; to satisfy each one’s preference and to serve as an added filler.
PORTERHOUSE FOR TWO (1 KG DRY-AGED USDA-PRIME – P6976)
We went straight in for the mains as we ordered a kilo of their beautiful dry-aged USDA Prime Porterhouse, perfectly cooked as seen in how juicy each bite proved to be. One slice is hefty and packs in a lot of meaty flavor; that you’d start filling up after a second serving of it. They actually served bottles of sauces on the table which included gravy and their signature Old-Fashioned tomato-based sauce; but for me, a sprinkle of salt was all I needed.
LAMB CHOPS (800g – P4088)
We also helped ourselves to their Lamb Chops, which appeared to be too charred for my liking. However, I was relieved with how juicy and tender it was when I started cutting it up. We opted to pair our main dishes with a couple of their side dishes, which were big enough to be shared among the table. We had an order of my guilty pleasure, thick-cut Fries (P298), which were nicely lightly seasoned; some Spinach (P498) to balance the guilt out, and went all out for its Lobster Mac and Cheese (P969). I actually thought that the Spinach would be similar to the creamed spinach side dishes served in other steak restaurants (such as 22 Prime); so I was a bit surprised that it was healthier than expected. No regrets though; especially as it would have competed with the richness of the Mac and Cheese!
SALMON (P1488)
We capped off our meal with a hefty slice of their Salmon, which was a little bit more cooked than I’d like it to be; but still, maintained the high level of quality we experienced from both the steak and the lamb chops. Table service was also exceptional as the helpful wait staff assisted us through every step of our meal.
Unfortunately, we didn’t have any room for dessert as my entire family was happily stuffed. It was actually a good call to do family-style ordering as we even had to take home portions of the steak and the lamb chops!
