KANTO FREESTYLE BREAKFAST

There’s never a shortage of people raving about Kanto Freestyle Breakfast; however, it never really appealed to me until it became conveniently available on demand via Grabfood. One of the most-raved about items on its menu would be its Honey Garlic Chicken – so I decided to order it for one office lunch.

HONEY GARLIC CHICKEN (P188)

To be fair, the chicken I was served with was extremely massive – it was definitely bigger than my hand; thus, the rice cup it came with was equally as massive. It boasted of a crisp chicken skin which comes glazed with honey while the meat was juicy – despite being subjected to delivery conditions. Ultimately, I was impressed – the hype and fanfare rallying behind it was well-deserved – it was affordable, decent, filling fare. When compared with other fast food fried chicken – Kanto’s easily beats them in terms of quality and quantity. I doubt I’d crave for this dish anytime soon – but when budget’s getting tight, this will definitely be a great alternative!

COCO ICHIBANYA

When it comes to curries around the world, Indian curry would always be my top pick. However, sometimes, I do find myself craving for the tamer Japanese kind – and thankfully, Coco Ichibanya is conveniently available via the Grabfood app to nurse that craving immediately.

CREAMED MUSHROOM OMELETTE CURRY (P407)

My go-to order would always be the Creamed Mushroom Omelette Curry (since I just crave for the curry sauce itself, it's a no brainer to opt for the healthier and lighter mushroom alternative compared to its fried and meatier options). The wonderful thing about Coco Ichibanya is that they thoughtfully pack ingredients separately (so if you do opt for their fried alternatives – you can be assured that they won’t be soggy)!

I would have loved for them to turn the heat up a couple of notches more since the mildly spiced curry sauce would be tempered down by the creamy sauce that comes with the sauteed mushrooms. Plating everything can be quite satisfying – you start by layering the perfectly scrambled egg over the white rice and end by lovingly pouring the curry sauce and creamed mushrooms atop them. Personally, I just mix in the pickled radish over my curry rice – but some do prefer to treat it as a side dish.

YALLA YALLA PH

Thanks to the wonderful recommendation of my good friend, Ivy, our entire office ordered from Yalla Yalla PH for one Saturday office lunch. Unfortunately, we did wait quite a while for it as its Poblacion branch opened late so we had to order from its Paranaque branch.

BEEF SHAWARMA RICE (P185)

Admittedly, I was getting a little bit hangry already, but boy you can’t deny how good it smelled when our orders finally arrived. I opted for the rice version of its Beef Shawarma; yet it’s also available in pita form if that's your preference. I tend to be extra nitpicky when it comes to shawarma – given that my college thesis project was essentially a Doner Kebab kiosk – where we served killer delicious beef and chicken kebabs – so yes, I do know a thing or two about it. A Beef Shawarma Rice meal comes with a generous serving of rice layered with deliciously spiced beef strips and a decent garlic sauce. I was surprised that it even came with side dishes – given its affordable price point. The meal box comes with pickled vegetables and a beet salad. This was a delightfully filling meal that can compete with fast food prices!
