Delivery Snippets: Popeye’s x Easy Tiger x Bon’s Kitchen

POPEYE’S

I’ve recently shared about my underwhelming belated reunion with Popeye’s famous Southern fried chicken and biscuits; mainly because the biscuits were too heavy, dry and bland; and the fact that homegrown fried chicken concepts like Bad Bird simply appeal to my palate better. However, I did mention that I was curious to try its burgers and sandwiches.

US SPICY CHICKEN SANDWICH + MEDIUM CAJUN FRIES + PINEAPPLE JUICE (P218)

Thanks to its effective non-stop Facebook ads, it was impossible to keep its US Spicy Chicken Sandwich off my mind. One thing that shocked me about them would be the fact that they looked as gorgeous as they appeared in their marketing collaterals! Beautifully toasted buns serve as the perfect vessel for the golden fried chicken fillets which delivered on both crunch and juiciness. Apart from fresh greens, delicious bacon slinces and crunchy Jalapeno peppers help make this chicken sandwich a gift that keeps on giving!

Since the Lenten season is just around the corner, Popeye’s Shrimp Burger will easily be your go-to meal during no-meat Fridays! Expect sizable chunks of shrimp in every bite! I do like the Spicy Chicken Sandwich better, but the Shrimp Burger is still infinitely better than most fast food burgers in the Metro!

EASY TIGER

Easy Tiger may be the concept in The Podium’s The Corner Market which I’ve frequented the most. Even though The Corner Market houses a lot of other tempting value-for-money concepts, Easy Tiger’s set meals prove to be unparalleled as they come served with rice (which you can upgrade to Bagoong Fried Rice), papaya salad and a bowl of tom yum soup!

CHICKEN WITH BASIL AND FRIED EGG MEAL+ BAGOONG FRIED RICE UPGRADE (P229)

I chanced upon The Corner Market’s online order platform and was surprised that you can mix and match orders from the food hall’s different concepts! Take-out and delivery orders can easily be placed in a few clicks, while several payment options are made available for hungry customers! I had to stop myself from adding some Mandu from Little Kaya and Kebabs from Sultan in my cart as I was just ordering lunch for myself!

I loved how well-packed everything was but I was definitely disappointed to find out that the tom yum soup was not included. I wasn’t sure if the kitchen just forgot about packing it or if they purposely left it out as it was prone to spillages. Nonetheless, I was still treated to a fully loaded meal!

The Bagoong Fried Rice was fragrant and flavorful. Toss in the green mango, the caramelized pork and scrambled egg, and it’s a complete meal already (I personally don’t eat raw onions so I just set those aside). To be honest, the Chicken with Basil, though definitely tasty, took a backseat as it failed to complement the bagoong fried rice as the latter proved to be more flavorful than it. To better appreciate the Chicken with Basil, it’s best to pair it with a cup of plain rice instead. One thing that I absolutely enjoyed about it though was that they didn’t hold back on the chilis!

The Tom Yum Soup may be missing, but the Papaya Salad more than made up for its absence. The crunchy pickled papaya soaked in its insanely addictive sauce boasts of a perfect balance of sweet and sour flavors that made it simply mind-blowing. If they sold this in bottles, expect me to be stocking up on them!

Bon’s Kitchen

If you’re craving for something delicious to warm you up during this chilly weather, Bon’s Kitchen’s Maki Mi should be a no-brainer.

MAKI MI (P185)

The clear dark brown hue of its soup base makes it one of the most photogenic Maki Mi’s I’ve had. It’s loaded with tender real meat chunks (nope, none of the fatty extenders served by popular chains can be seen here)! A massive bowl can comfortably feed two people. I’m definitely picking this Maki Mi over those served in Ha Yuan and Charlie’s!
