SHI LIN
Back when I was still working in BPI Shi Lin has always been a go-to for lunch every time my friends and I were craving for Xiao Long Bao and Chicken Chop. However, over the years, it’s been eclipsed by Paradise Dynasty and Din Tai Fung for the Xiao Long Bao, and Fat Fook for their Chicken Chop - that it's honestly been quite a while since I last tasted its offerings.
CHICKEN CHOP BENTO (P348)
Back then, it was pretty hard to order for solo dining – since their noodle and rice dishes came in pretty generous servings that’s perfect for sharing - you're bound to have leftovers. Thus, when I came across an ad about their bento offerings, I was curious to give it another try. I opted for the Chicken Chop Bento, which came with fried rice, chicken chop, 2 pieces of their Xiao Long Bao, veggies and a red bean bun. I’ve always been a fan of their egg fried rice – it’s a no fuss fried rice which is simply incredibly tasty. It’s the perfect vehicle to pair your chicken and/or pork chops with. However, these came in gigantic bowls – so even with a pretty big appetite, you’d need someone to share it with. I love that it's now made available in single-serve offerings through its bento selection.
As expected, the Xiao Long Baos didn’t really travel well – the soup inside was quite cold already when it came to me – but the same can be expected from any restaurant - so we can't fault Shi Lin for that. Stir fried bokchoy is added to the mix to make for a balanced meal; while a sizeable red bean bun serves as a heavy dessert guaranteed to fill you up.

GREYSON’S DIMSUM AND NOODLES
Greyson’s went viral in Let’s Eat Pare late last year that it was impossible not to take notice especially with mouthwatering photos being shared by the group’s members raving about the affordability of Greyson’s. A solo order is HUGE – that if you’re ordering other side dishes, you can actually comfortably share a bowl between two people.
BEEF WONTON (P125)
I’m an absolute sucker for HK style noodles already so it was an easy sell for me – each Beef Wonton bowl comes with tender beef that flaunts such a teasingly glossy brown hue, a couple of siomai and tasty beef broth – all for the price of P125. The siomai is the mediocre type – but you won’t really mind it once you douse it with some chili oil and soy sauce – especially considering that a side order of extra siomai is only P50! A half order of their fried chicken is insanely priced at P170 – equivalent to probably a 2 pc fried chicken meal at your favorite fast food restaurant. Greyson’s won’t be able to compete with your favorite Chinese/Cantonese restaurant, but it does offer a more substantial and gastronomical selection compared to your usual fast food fix.
