TAN TAN NOODLES PH

I’ve always had a weakness when it comes to noodles; so finding a noodle purveyor who delivers to our home for FREE while I'm hungrily scrolling on Facebook was an instant trap for me. It didn’t help that Tan Tan Noodles PH’s Dan Dan Mien looked absolutely stunning from the photos featured on its social media pages.

SPICY DAN DAN MIEN (P380/tub)

Apart from its Dan Dan Mien, Tan Tan Noodles PH also offers Laksa. As much as I wanted to try their Laksa out also, Tan Tan Noodles PH requires a minimum order of at least three tubs per order; so six tubs of noodles may be a little too much for lunch, so I decided to start with the Dan Dan Mien.

Three spice levels are made available for the noodles: non-spicy, spicy and medium-spicy (we opted for the spicy variant). The perfectly chewy noodles looked as gorgeous as advertised and were definitely flavorful – from the fragrant chili oil, to the tasty minced pork topping, the crunchy kiamchai which gave it a nice sour tinge to each bite, and peanut-scallion toppings which lent a nice crunch to the dish. I thoroughly enjoyed it but I do hope that they also offer some side dishes to go along with the noodles just to help round it up!

TOQUE’S TURF

Steak isn’t really the best food item to be delivered as it can easily toughen up minutes after cooking. However, I keep seeing rave reviews about Toque’s Turf’s Hanger Steak platters, that I can’t get it out of my mind. One thing that definitely made it difficult to resist was its value-for-money price tag.

HANGER STEAK (DOUBLE) – P1800

A double Hanger Steak platter is advertised to be good for 4 to 5 pax, but it was definitely more than enough for my family that we were able to stretch it for two meals! It comes with a hefty serving of sides: a colorful selection of marbled potatoes, French beans and roasted tomato halves. Both gravy and chumichurri dips are served with the steak. Because of its affordable price, I already managed my expectations on the quality of the steak. Served medium, the steak still offered a tender bite despite the lengthy time between its pick-up time and serving time. My only issue with it is that I’m not a fan of its overly-seasoned steak. Personally, I enjoy my steak with just a sprinkle of salt and barely any gravy; so, its peppery flavor was quite overwhelming for me. It does pair amazingly well with their homemade chimichurri. However, I still do strongly recommend this if you enjoy your steak with more frills than I do!

I might not be ordering another platter of steak from them, but they just added a rack of their Lamb on their menu which I now can’t seem to shake off my mind! Let’s see how long it will take until I give in! (A single order of the Hanger Steak comes with all the sides also and costs only P999)!

MINATAMIS

I’ve never really been a fan of kakanin but Biko has always been an exception to this rule thanks to its generous use of latik. Thanks to my sister’s random lockdown cravings, she ordered a 9-inch Biko and 6x6 tray of Sapin-Sapin in one go!

9” BIKO (P300) and 6x6 SAPIN-SAPIN (P280)

I actually tried to convince her to just get one variant at a time (and secretly hoped she’d opt for the Biko) as I felt that ordering two full orders in one go was quite a lot for us. However, her cravings were hitting her hard so she pushed through with ordering both, and we have no regrets.

I was pretty excited to unbox the Biko, and when I got a whiff of its delectably caramel-like latik sauce, I honestly couldn’t wait to gobble up a slice. It tasted as good as it smelled. It’s unapologetically rich and greasy, and doesn’t scrimp on the latik. It’s incredibly indulgent, comes with loads of calories, yet, I couldn’t help refilling my plate with another slice. It's definitely the best Biko I've ever had!

I’ve already disclosed my bias for Biko, so it would be unfair for me to share my opinion on Sapin-Sapin (which I'm not a fan of to begin with). Let’s just say that the Biko may have been bigger than the Sapin-Sapin, but we went through the Biko faster than the latter!
