Delivery Snippets: The Peking Order x UCC Clockwork x Ono Poke Shop

THE PEKING ORDER

I’ve previously shared about how Roasted Duck Express’s flexible serving sizes of roasted duck help curb one’s duck cravings without having to order an entire duck (thus, making it lighter for your wallet to swallow). However, if you’re craving for a more authentic experience, The Peking Order offers this classic celebration centerpiece to be conveniently enjoyed in its full glory at home.

PEKING DUCK SET (P2800)

The Peking Order is pretty straightforward with its Peking Duck. Don’t expect customizable sizes or the option to have it cooked two-to-three ways as it sells it as whole Peking duck, armed with the classic wrapper, Hoisin and Plum sauces, leeks and cucumbers. It requires a reasonable 2-day lead time and can conveniently be ordered though a few clicks in its website.

The only downside to this is that it delivers the duck, unchopped, as a means to maintain its juiciness. This means that some DIY carving and knife skills would be required for the diner. Nonetheless, this extra effort pays off as indeed, beneath the duck’s crisp thin skin would be immensely juicy and tasty meat. Sure, nothing beats the deluxe service of restaurants such as the Peking Garden, where skillful carvers would uniformly slice the duck into beautiful razor-thin sheets (sometimes even delicately wrapping them for you). However, taste-wise, the Peking Order can definitely compare with those typically served in Chinese restaurants.

UCC CLOCKWORK

Pre-pandemic, UCC has always been a go-to haunt for me-time meals. I used to frequent the corner table at its Magnolia branch, prop open a book, and order either a rice casserole or its Garlic Seafood Spaghetti paired with a cup of coffee, and simply lounge there.

GARLIC SEAFOOD SPAGHETTI (P523) and ICHIBAN BLEND (P158)

Admittedly, its Garlic Seafood Spaghetti’s definitely overpriced (especially if you consider the added premium cost when ordered via Grabfood), but somehow, I find myself craving for it every now and then. It’s utterly simple: al dente spaghetti with sizeable shrimps, squid and mussels tossed in and topped with garlic and chili; but it’s guaranteed to deliver on flavor. I also did appreciate how UCC makes the effort to pack in muscovado sugar and fresh milk to complete your coffee experience, even if it’s just for delivery– no pre-packed white sugar packets and instant creamers here!

ONO POKE SHOP

I’ve been a fan of Ono Poke Shop since its pop-up days in Makati. I loved how it progressed to multiple branch locations and even transitioned to also offering in-house delivery through its website https://www.onopoke.ph/. While browsing through its menu, I was surprised to see that they’re now offering sushi rice as their grain of choice (I usually opt for brown rice) so I decided to test it out!

SOY MISO SALMON OVER SUSHI RICE (P305)

I’d have to admit, I was a bit disappointed to see how little the serving size of the salmon was; but I was pleasantly surprised that it was just enough to cover the entire cup of rice! I guess I was used to its previous round plastic containers that it looked visually less when laid out in the eco-friendly bento box. The sushi rice was a delight to eat but I did find some bits to be undercooked. Overall though, it was still a delightful poke bowl! If you're looking for something lighter or cleaner, definitely try Ono's poke bowls.
