My Country House: Of Baked Goods and Spacious Dining

My Country House is situated in a gorgeous home with ample space for dining.

Despite its spacious dining area, the restaurant’s conscious choices for its interiors and furniture aid in giving a cozy and private ambiance for each table.

We were greeted by rainy weather but imagine how gorgeous its al fresco area would have been if it were sunnier!

Like a lot of its sister concepts from The Raintree Group of Restaurants, My Country House boasts of a delicious selection of freshly-baked breads, pastries, and other dried goods! I honestly did an entire pasalubong haul after just one round of looking through the fun items in its selection!

However, if shopping for food’s not your thing; fret not as the restaurant would promptly serve the entire table their house bread. I loved how the bread contained dried cranberries (think Baguio’s raisin bread – but instead of raisins, it's dried cranberries!!!) – so as long as the bread’s toasted - smear it with some butter and you’re guaranteed for a delicious treat!

ROASTED BONE MARROW (P595)

We started off with the Roasted Bone Marrow – which served three beautifully charred bone marrow pieces on a skillet – this was indulgent but incredibly delicious! It comes with a delightful spicy and sweet red pepper relish which helped lend a much welcome contrast in flavor.

US BEEF LENGUA ESTOFADO (P995)

As one of our main dishes, we opted for the US Beef Lengua Estofado – which boasted of immensely tender lengua pieces stewed in a wonderfully earthy and comforting tomato-based sauce. Mushrooms, olives, fried potato wedges and chorizo slices add flavor, texture and color to this already tasty dish. However, what elevated the dish further would be the crispy jamon serrano! Make sure to pair this with some rice!

TWICE COOKED US BEEF SHORT RIBS (P1500)

We paired this with the Twice Cooked US Beef Short Ribs, which were unfortunately overcooked – thus, the chunks of meat ended up on the dry side. Root vegetables such as carrots and potatoes help soak up the sauce – but it’s definitely bland when compared to the incredibly flavorful lengua.

BEEF FAT GARLIC FRIED RICE (P250)

Fortunately, we opted for the Beef Fat Garlic Rice, instead of just normal plain rice; so, this was a welcome accompaniment to the Twice Cooked US Beef Short Ribs. Flavorful and fragrant on its own, the Beef Fat Garlic Fried Rice comes with shredded pieces of beef – making it a meal on its own.

SAFFRON SEAFOOD (P1200)

We helped ourselves to an order of their Saffron Seafood paella– a wonderfully bright dish that definitely brought in some sunshine to the gloomy weather- topped with a generous assortment of ingredients such as prawns, mussels, squid, Toscana peppers and green beans. This was a pretty solid serving of paella. I prefer the drier kind of paella – but essentially, there was nothing wrong with their rendition.
