Old Swiss Inn: Fondues that Go Beyond Cheese

Old Swiss Inn – with its rustic charm and delicious fare which has always been consistently good– coupled with the warmest service you can expect (especially for team members who’ve grown old with the restaurant) - it's no wonder this institution has stood the test of time.

My family rarely deviates from our usual orders from Old Swiss Inn – we simply add/remove items from our list based on our party size so I’m pretty sure if you dug up years-old reviews of mine on Old Swiss Inn, you’d still see the same items featured! A classic oldie-but-goodie would be their complimentary house bread – always served warm! It's a perfect pair to their hearty goulash but delicious in its lonesome with a thin spread of butter!

RACLETTE (P605)

Old Swiss Inn is famous for its fondues – but usually, when dining in smaller groups, it’s usually the cheese fondue which gets on our order chopping block. However, they do offer single servings of raclette – just in case we’re desperately yearning for some salty stretchy cheese to pair our breads with but we don't have enough mouths and stomachs to consume both cheese and beef fondues. Despite being served on a small plate, you’re guaranteed that it has the full works – from marble potatoes, gherkins and pearl onions.

ZURICH GESCHNETZELTES (P690)

Okay, admittedly – I still don’t know how to pronounce this dish – or can spell it out on my own after years of devouring this dish – but it remains to be a consistent pick me upper. I usually just point it out on the menu with a giggle and I love that the Old Swiss Inn team members never pass off a judging laugh or look whenever I do this. This brilliant dish boasts of two equally delicious components which are perfectly in their lonesome selves; but taste spectacularly well together. The first half would be shredded pork tenderloin lovingly stewed in an immensely mushroom cream sauce I can't get enough of! Pair this with the roesti, with rice or with bread! The second half of the dish would be a huge serving of their delightfully crisp roesti potato pancake (yes, I prefer theirs over Breakfast at Antonio’s)!

FONDUE BOURGUIGNONNE (P1980)

The consistent crowd-pleaser would be their Fondue Bourguignonne or their beef fondue – which boasts of three plates of prime beef tenderloin cubes which you dip in hot oil to cook (it takes only a few seconds to do so)! It comes with a fun carousel of sauces for both the beef and the fries that it comes with. It comes with some surprise sides like banana slices, gherkins and pearl onions! Have fun swirling the carousel around to mix and match all the sauces!

Of course, for larger groups, I do recommend their Goulash (best in the Metro!), their Cheese Fondue (you can opt to have it spiked or not) and their Toblerone Fondue!
