Dining Snippets: Morganfield’s x Sobremesa x Sear Steak Scullery
MORGANFIELD’S
JACK DANIEL’S GLAZED IBERICO BABY BACK (P1050)
I never really understood the thrill behind eating saucy meaty ribs with one’s bare hands, but I do acknowledge that Baby Back Ribs are a staple in the Filipino diet. (Too) many rib joints compete over our hungry stomachs as foreign franchises, homegrown chains, and stand-alone restaurants all claim to have the best ribs in town.
Styled typically as a diner, this foreign franchise takes pride in its ribs. Apart from being reasonably priced, the restaurant boasts of variants featuring different rubs and marinade. One of my go-to marinades would be Jack Daniel’s. All my visits to TGI Fridays and Sunrise Buckets would always include a Jack Daniel’s dish, so this meal was definitely not an exception. Morganfield’s ribs were extremely tender, meaty and flavorful. I usually drown my ribs in Barbecue sauce; but I didn’t even use a single drop of sauce on their ribs. The ribs came with deliciously crisp coleslaw, and forgettable (but crispy) onion rings.
BACON WRAPPED MEATBALLS (P245)
The Bacon Wrapped Meatballs pack up more spice and flavor as they appear to have. Crisp, and surprisingly not greasy, these bite-sized wonders will definitely whet everyone’s appetite. Wrap it with fresh lettuce leaves for the complete experience! Another good starter would be its Pork Sausage Platter (P495). A platter comes with four plump and juicy sausages, the Spicy Devil, the Smoky Bandit, the Herby Hog, and the Cheesy Cheese. To be honest, I wouldn’t be able to distinguish them from each other aside from the cheese variant; all I know was that I enjoyed all of them equally.

SOBREMESA
BARAKO COFFEE CRUSTED RIB EYE (P900)
Sobremesa’s unlimited ribeye promotion immediately caught my attention as I saw it scribbled down on a board displayed in its storefront. Since then, I never stopped thinking about it. After a couple of weeks, I eventually came back to try it out. As I wasn’t in the mood to go all out carnivorous mode, I decided to order its Barako Coffee Crusted Rib Eye. Boy was it worth! Garnished with a delicious chimichurri spread, and served with blanched Baguio beans and kamote fries, its mouthwatering 300g ribeye was a wonder to devour! We decided to pair this up with the Shrimp and Mango Salad (P295), which was drizzled in a tangy vinaigrette and unfortunately topped with overcooked shrimp.
SALTED CARAMEL AND BANANA CHEESECAKE (P230)
Thanks to Booky, we actually got their bestselling dessert for free. Its cheesecake sounds and looks like it’s overloaded with sweetness, but it tasted surprisingly well-balanced. Pair this up with a warm cup of Americano for best results.

SEAR STEAK SCULLERY
DRY AGED RIBEYE (P1449)
I’ve also sampled Sear Steak Scullery’s ribeye offering. A hefty 400g ribeye boasting of a flavorful rub containing eleven spices, one won’t have any need for gravy or any type of sauce. As it’s meant for sharing, the ribeye comes with unlimited dinner rolls, and a bowl of mushroom soup for starters.
CRAB AND MANGO (P260)
We paired the delicious steak with their Crab and Mango salad which came drizzled in a sweet creamy mango dressing that pairs well with the crabstick pieces.
