Dining Snippets: The 2016 Singapore Special (Part 2 of 2)

Dining is a serious undertaking in Singapore (as explained to us in Crazy Rich Asians); thus, its plethora of restaurant choices deserve an equal share of attention as its hawker/food court counterparts (See: Dining Snippets: The 2016 Singapore Special (Part 1 of 2).

ETNA ITALIAN RESTAURANT

FRESH BURRATA (SGD 42)

A day spent going around Singapore can get a bit tiring due to the city’s vibrant and fast-paced spirit. Indulge and unwind in a cozy restaurant such as Etna’s. Located in the heart of Duxton Road’s string of gastronomic concepts, Etna stands out for its authentic take on Italian cuisine, and its warm and impeccable service. Forget about The Wholesome Table’s and Gino Brick Oven’s Burrata, as Etna’s the real deal. Flown fresh from Italy, the cheese is perfectly stringy. Make each bite perfect by making sure there’s a mix of Parma ham, arugula, and olive to complement it.

NORCINO (SGD 28)

Be delighted by its amazingly crunchy thick crust pizza! Its Norcino pizza boasts of the smoky flavors of homemade pork sausages, and porcini mushrooms on top of mozzarella cheese delicately laced with truffle essence.

DELIZIA AI CIOCCOLATO (SGD 14)

Have your sweet finish with the Delizia Ai Cioccolato, a deconstructed molten lava cake, made exquisite by a hint of walnut liqueur.

YAYOIKEN’S NASU MISO AND HOKKE TEISHOKU (SGD 16.90)

Restaurant dining in Singapore can get a bit pricey as a tab for a casual restaurant concept fetches for at least SGD 25/pax. This was why I was shocked to discover Yayoiken’s outrageously reasonable teishoku sets ranging from SGD12 to SGD 20. The Nasu Miso and Hokke Teishoku provided a brilliant contrast of flavors; on one hand, you have the subtle saltiness of melt-in-your-mouth mackerel; and a killer miso -coated dish on the other. The savory sticky miso sauce was a definite winner as it contains a faint kick of spiciness that brings the dish to life. It even comes with thinly-sliced tender pork yakiniku strips to make this set even more worth it!

NO SIGNBOARD SEAFOOD

No Signboard Seafood’s a household name when it comes to getting the famed Singaporean Chili Crab. However, it does have more dishes to its name that you can consider getting. Its small dishes are actually good enough for sharing between 3 to 4 diners.

COFFEE PORK RIBS

Perfectly crunchy and juicy pieces of pork smothered in a delectable coffee glaze await you when you order the Coffee Pork Ribs. It’s by far the best that I’ve tasted! Pair this with their super spicy and super delicious Mee Goreng! It’s definitely worth having a scorched tongue and a sweaty forehead for a bite of this killer noodle dish!

CEREAL PRAWNS

Its sweet and crunchy cereal flakes is a sure pick-me-up! Served with deep-fried fresh jumbo prawns, No Signboard Seafood’s Cereal Prawns comes a close second to Jumbo Seafood Restaurant’s!
